Getting the Most Out of Your General Contractor

If you are thinking about hiring a general contractor, you should read my blog before you pick up the phone or send that email. I am not a general contractor myself, but I have just finished restoring my home. It was a big project that involved working with multiple contractors over an extended period of time. Although I am not a professional, I learnt an awful lot about how to get the most out of a team of contractors and how to keep a project on schedule and under budget. I also learnt a thing or two about the work they were carrying out.

How to Choose a Road Line Marking Contractor

by Kurt Lawson

Whether you're trying to perfect a sports field for your school or you need to create an easy-to-use car park, finding a road line marking contractor that's appropriate for your project means the difference between success and misery. In addition to ensuring the company you choose has the right equipment, you'll also want to consider their experience and the array of services they offer.

Do they have the right vehicles?

Australia's territories vary drastically in terms of landscape and conditions, which means there's no such thing as a one-size-fits-all road line marking vehicle. When choosing a contractor, ask them how their vehicles weather the conditions in the territory you're in. In addition, you may want to consider whether they can perform tasks such as painting edge and centre lines at the same time, which offers more symmetry along the road than painting them separately.

Does the company have experience with your setting?

A line marking contractor that's adept at painting a sports field may struggle to achieve accuracy when it comes to air strips, and vice-versa. Most companies will provide details of their past projects, which should give you a sound idea of whether they're suitable for your setting. In addition, try to determine whether they can meet the more niche aspects of your setting. For example, marking a helicopter pad is a smaller task than a commercial runway, so make sure their experience is specific as well as relevant.

Do they offer both paint and thermoplastic services?

Both paint and thermoplastic services work with stencils, intricate designs, and various colours, allowing you to achieve a bespoke look that's aesthetically pleasing. However, while paint is cost-effective and appropriate for settings such as sports fields, it doesn't tend to last as long as its thermoplastic counterpart. In contrast, thermoplastic line marking lasts for years to come and is ideal for settings where you can't afford sudden erosion, such as air fields. Both have their place and being able to choose between the two allows you to identify the safest and most beneficial option for your project.

Can you use the company for removal services later?

Should your line marking requirements change in the future, you may find that it's easier to use the same company that completed the job to reverse it. Services to look out for include high-pressure water blasting and profile grinding, both of which are adept at removing various types of marking.

Before settling on a company, always ask for portfolios, have a discussion about your project, and take some time to consider plans. With a steady approach, you can look forward to long lasting results.
